6G is the next generation of wireless technology and will be the base for a new global digital infrastructure. The technology promises to bring faster speed, lower latency, and greater capacity, creating opportunities for new services in areas such as energy efficiency, cognitive (learning) systems, and other AI applications. It will also enable new use cases and provide opportunities for research and innovation.

Collaboration between countries such as the US and Sweden can lead to the development of new technologies and services that will benefit both nations.  This seminar will address issues regarding obstacles and opportunities:

  • How can we encourage leading universities In Europe and US to create common research results leading to 6G definition and standardization?
  • How can we combine the strength of the two ecosystems to create an overall leadership in the broad definition of 6G?

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) co-host a seminar to strengthen the cooperation between Sweden and the USA regarding 6G.

  • Welcome by Tuula Teeri, president IVA
  • 6G in the context of mobile network evolution, Erik Ekudden, Group CTO, Ericsson
  • Visionary use cases in the 2030 timeframe,  Dr. Tom Richardson, Vice President of Engineering, Qualcomm
  • 6G key technologies and research opportunities, Professor Fredrik Tufvesson, Lund University

Panel

  • Potential areas of collaboration between US and Swedish innovation systems. Dr. Murat Torlak of NSF, USA (Moderator) and Anne Lidgard, Head of International Cooperation Vinnova, Sweden, Christan Hedelin, Chief Strategy Officer, Saab and Professor Luis DaSilva, Virginia Tech.
