Embedl awarded for groundbreaking AI technology

Embedl wins IVA's Smart Industry 2024 Business Competition. The company develops innovative software tools and technologies that optimize machine learning models, with a focus on making AI models more efficient and energy-efficient.

"Embedl is a very worthy winner of the Smart Industry Business Competition. IVA recognised them as early as 2019, when they were accepted to IVA's 100 list, which highlights research projects with the potential to be utilised through commercialisation, business and method development or societal impact. Since then, they have impressively created business benefits from their proprietary technology," says Fredrik Hörstedt, vice president of IVA and chairman of the jury.

Embedl develops software tools and technology to optimize machine learning models, with a particular focus on making AI models more efficient and energy-efficient. The Gothenburg-based company is a spin-off from Chalmers University of Technology, and research remains a central part of the business.

The jury's motivation

"Embedl wins the 2024 Smart Industry Business Competition for its proprietary advanced technologies that improve the learning of AI systems. These provide improved performance and increased productivity, and reduced energy consumption, which benefits the climate. In addition, Embedl's offering is versatile and can be applied to different platforms and hardware."

Honorable mentions to Frontpac, Inify and IPercept

Frontpac is a packaging producer that streamlines and quality assures its work and processes with the help of digitalization and AI. The company is based in Arlöv.

"Frontpac is awarded an honorable mention in the 2024 Smart Industry Business Competition for its AI tools that ensure that the right information is available in workplace accidents. Frontpac shows that new technology can be used to both contribute to a better work environment and to meet complex legal requirements and regulations, which may increase in the future. Frontpac inspires other Swedish companies to take similar development steps."

Inify Laboratories offers cancer diagnostics through ultra-modern laboratory services and a fully digital, standardized, and AI-assisted workflow. The company is based in Solna.

"Inify is awarded an honorable mention in the 2024 Smart Industry Business Competition for its ultra-modern lab that combines industrial approach with innovations in healthcare processes. Their technology is based on niche digitization applications with unique components that enable advanced and life-saving services, with guaranteed response time, in cancer diagnostics and sample handling."

IPercept is an industrial software and services company specializing in remote and standalone solutions for maintenance and operational improvement of industrial machinery. The company is based in Stockholm. 

"IPercept is awarded an honorable mention in the 2024 Smart Industry Business Competition for its unique approach to improving preventive maintenance. This complex area has great potential for both productivity improvements and sustainability gains. IPercept's sensor systems and simulation methods can both increase the industry's uptime and improve its processes."

IVA's Smart Industry Business Competition

The Smart Industry Business Competition was instituted in 2016 by Siemens, Teknikföretagen and IVA and has been held annually since then. The competition recognises and rewards companies that take advantage of the possibilities of digitalisation in a smart and innovative way with clear results. The aim is to stimulate small and medium-sized companies' digital and sustainable transformation by highlighting good examples that can show the way forward. 

The Smart Industry business competition 2024 is financed by Scania, Siemens and Teknikföretagen.
