Cavitating microbubbles as a next generation water cleaning technology

Global population growth, unequal distribution of water resources reinforced by climate change, and industrial development cause a sharp increase in freshwater demand. Cavitating microbubbles are a novel, ecologically and economically efficient, chemical-free approach to clean water from PFAS, bacteria, and pharmaceutical residues.

Cavitating microbubbles release a large amount of energy into the surrounding liquids in mechanical (shockwaves, microjets, and impact pressures), thermal (pyrolysis), and chemical forms, all contributing to efficient water treatment through precision mixing, mechanical stress, boiling, and chemical oxidation.
The proposed solution has unique advantages in low energy consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to existing and developing advanced water treatment methods. It is a chemical-free technique. It comes as a modular approach that can be used as a stand-alone unit or an upgrade of the existing system.
