The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) is an independent academy with a mission “...to promote engineering and economic sciences and the advancement of business and industry for the benefit of society.” We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement.

IVA believes in humanity’s capacity to contribute positively to society through the engineering and economic sciences. We run a number of projects and programmes, produce reports, knowledge bases and policy proposals, and organise open seminars and meetings nationwide. We also recognise and encourage the efforts of others by awarding distinctions and grants.

Mantis Photonics is a Swedish start-up project developing a patented camera that takes hyperspectral images of the retina i.e. an image with 40 different colors instead of the 3 colors of standard caemras.

With this technology we intend to reveal previously unknown information and catalyze the digital transformation of healthcare. With one snapshot image, we will screen for eye diseases, neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's) and more!

We have built two prototypes tested in 2 clinical trials. From our ophthalmology clinical trial readouts, we can detect naevi automatically and more efficiently than standard methods. Moreover, we are currently working on oxygenation mapping, a biomarker of many pathologies, and measuring the lack of neuro fibre to diagnose glaucoma.
