Lindometer-A Train Based System for Railway Infrastructure Monitoring

Growth in overall transport demand has led to Railways experiencing an increase in traffic and load, leading to an increase in degradation of its components and causing a reduction in the infrastructure quality.

IVAs 100-lista 2023

To attain higher operational capacity and quality of service with the existing infrastructure and minimise delays due to failures, the track and its components needs to be inspected frequently. In Sweden such inspections are carried out manually or by using measurement cars.

Manual inspections are slow, cost and labour intensive and prone to human errors. Furthermore, measurement cars are cost intensive and requires track possession and cannot be utilised frequently without compromising the operational capacity.

To overcome these challenges, this research aims to develop an automated monitoring system based on an in-service train installation, artificial intelligence and a robust magnetic field sensor to enable continuous monitoring of track components during regular operation

IVA’s 100 List 2023 - Technology in the service of humanity

IVA’s 100 List 2023 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Technology in the Service of Humanity within in climate change, energy supply, welfare technology, cybersecurity and crisis preparedness. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.

Named contact persons for each research project on the 100 List are responsible for the accuracy of the information presented.
