Sverion: a paradigm shift in lubrication

By harnessing the chemical diversity of ions, Sverion provides superlative lubricants with unprecedented levels of flexible functionality and minimised environmental footprint.

Bubbles under water

Through interdisciplinary research combining chemistry, physics, and mechanical engineering, we have developed a new class of lubricants where the constituent anions and cations can be independently imbued with different functionalities, offering unparalleled freedom in lubricant design.  Our research benefits society and enables the Swedish industry to retain an innovative high ground in key sectors such as electric machinery, e-mobility, defense and semiconductors. These sectors currently rely on deficient lubrication strategies. Our pioneering ionic technology reduces operation and maintenance costs, carbon footprint, and offers PFAS- and fluorine-free alternatives for vacuum lubrication to help industry move away from these harmful substances.

About IVA’s 100 List

IVA’s annual 100 List pulls together a wide range of research projects from Swedish higher education institutions on topical themes. The selection process picks out the projects that are deemed to offer the greatest potential to create value through commercialisation, business and method development or societal impact. All the participating researchers are interested in closer contact with the business community for the application and continued development of their projects.
