Resilient Digital Infrastructure
The overarching goal of the project is to ensure that Sweden’s digital infrastructure, in terms of capacity, quality, and security, can compete with the most advanced countries in the world. The project brings together various perspectives to propose concrete and actionable measures that enhance the resilience of the digital infrastructure. The conditions of the business sector are prioritised, but the crucial role of digital infrastructure for critical societal functions is also central.
We gather different perspectives to come up with concrete and feasible measures to enhance the resilience of the digital infrastructure.

”IVA's Resilient Digital Infrastructure project aims to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration. The conditions of the business sector are prioritised, but the crucial role of digital infrastructure for critical societal functions is also central. Therefore, we bring together various perspectives to propose concrete and feasible measures that enhance the resilience of the digital infrastructure. We believe that our position, as an independent bridge-builder between industry, the public sector, and academia, allows us to contribute in a way that complements the work of other actors in this field,” says Pia Sandvik, chair of the project’s steering committee.
A vulnerable digital infrastructure
Digital technology and digital systems are essential for operations in all parts of society. When digital systems become integrated parts of, for example, transport and logistics, energy, and financial systems, digital infrastructure becomes just as crucial a part of a resilient society as other categories of infrastructure.
Products and production processes, private and public services, are increasingly becoming digitalised, data-driven and intelligent. Consequently, vital societal functions depend on reliable and robust digital infrastructure.
Digital infrastructure can be described as different layers, ranging from passive fibres and masts, through networks, applications, data and information management, to services. Many actors, both private and public, collaborate within these layers. The outcome of their collective actions determines how the infrastructure changes, develops, and how resilient it is.
The Resilient Digital Infrastructure project has the following premises:
- Reliable and resilient digital infrastructure is crucial for the functioning of industry, business and society.
- Various types of infrastructure disruptions have consequences for a range of operations within industry and business, as well as within different societal sectors and functions.
- Sweden's preparedness and the systems in place to handle disruptions are vital and must also be maintained in a crisis.
- Sweden's ability as a nation to plan, coordinate, and develop digital infrastructure to meet future demands for resilience, efficiency, and sustainability must be on par with the best countries in the world.
- What measures are required to create a world-class digital infrastructure?
